PUCA (Campus of Yaoundé) |
The Protestant University of Central Africa, abbreviated PUCA, is a confessional institution of higher learning. The decision to create a Protestant University in Central Africa dates back as from 1959 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. Indeed, during that year, eleven (11) Protestant Churches of Africa and the American and European Missions in Cameroon, found it necessary to first create a Faculty of Protestant Theology in Yaounde - Cameroon, with a specific mission and goals sustained over time. This Faculty was inaugurated on February 17, 1962 by the then Head of State, President Amadou Ahidjo as the first institution of higher education in Cameroon. During the ordinary session of the Board Meeting of 2006, the transformation
of the former Faculty of Theology to a full University was approved and
recognized by the Government of the Republic of Cameroon through the Ministerial
decree N° 07/0139 of MINESUP of 21st September 2007, which granted
to the Protestant University of Central Africa the right to train candidates
in the BMD System (Bachelor, Master and Doctorate) /LMD System (Licence
- Master - Doctorat).

The main mission of the PUCA is to contribute to the improvement of human
lives, the fight against poverty and social injustice and social transformations
in Africa and the world. It is in this vein that today as yesterday, PUCA
aims at providing quality education at the spiritual, moral and intellectual
level, as well as technological practice. The intention is to train honest
and competent managers for the church and the society, in accordance to
the Word of God and in the spirit of faith, freedom and liberty, following
the characteristics of the Reformed church.
